Manufacturers sometimes may have the greatest CMS system out there, but if they don’t know how to use it, they can be completely lost with no clue of their earnings. Unlike a store that has limited furniture and equipment; a manufacturer may have many millions of dollars of equipment, and may need to depreciate this over the life of the asset.

In addition, the accounting process for a manufacturer can be extremely complicated. The purchase cost of inventory is only recognized at the time of sale. While a store buys a widget and sells the same widget, easily tracking the costs; the manufacturer buys twenty widgets, and turns them into one widget, all the while tracking the costs of the original twenty widgets at the time of purchase to the time of sale. Then, add all the indirect costs into the mix!
